Well this community has got some events lined up to make sure it’s a fun filled, packed month!

If you have any questions or issues with signing up, we encourage you to go on that organizations webpage and/or reach out to them.

We are here to inform you on what’s going on in the community but can’t answer specific questions on these events if we are not hosting them.

Be sure to attend our BIG fundraising event of the year- Magic in the Garden. If you haven’t been before, this is the time to attend as it will be a beautiful gathering in our very own community garden.

You will have a chance to meet the ESA Team, plus other members in our community- all while enjoying some music & finger foods + drinks. We can’t wait to see you there! 😄

Do you know the best thing about running a non-profit Refill Station is?!

Having the ability to support other people in our very own community and their small business.

Jodie handcrafts small batches of Shave Soaps, Body Soaps and Shampoo Bars so that we can offer low waste options to our customers at the shop. All of which come in lovely different scents that people seem to not get enough of.

We are grateful for her and her business as she helped sponsor our booth at the Farmer’s Market this summer. Thank you Jodie!

This summer is sure going quick but it sure has been a fun one!

Our “Be The Change! Garden Adventures” with Sedum and Sage was a hit and one these young adventurers are sure to remember.

During camp, these students learned how to get their hands dirty, involving various topics ranging from plants, pollinators, soil and compost.

As an organization, we believe that investing in our youth is extremely important and what better way than in our very own community garden, led by local community leaders!

Thank you, Brooks Barwell with Sedum and Sage for organizing such a great camp so these kiddos know how to be stewards of the land.

Formally living in Pittsburg, Natalie moved to Evergreen back in April of this year and we are sure happy she did!

Come on by to introduce yourself and help her feel welcomed into our community. 😄

Tomorrow is the day!!! We will be at The Original Evergreen Farmer’s Market hosted in the parking lot of Hiwan Homestead from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

There will be a new face behind the booth- our NEW Refill Station Program Manager, Natalie.

So, come on down and shop low waste goods, plus say hi the newest team member of Evergreen Sustainability Alliance.

We are extremely excited to have Natalie join us as she has a unique background in Sustainabilty and is eager to bring her ideas to the organization, as well as the shop!

The concept of “living sustainability” isn’t a big math equation that each of us need to calculate, it’s all about us trying our absolute best.

Any effort made to reduce your own impact is a win!

As a non-profit focused around creating and sharing resources so members in our mountain community can live a more sustainable and resilient life, we are here to meet you where you are currently at.

Collecting food scraps so it can be created into compost is the single, most impactful thing we can do as humans.

What’s even cooler than that?!

Compost can bring vital nutrients to the plants we grow of which can feed us!

Shoutout to an amazing, sustainable business that operates in our very own backyard- Humble Suds!

We LOVE Humble Suds for more reasons than one- Their simple but effective ingredients. Their willingness to collaborate and support us whenever we ask. The fact that this is woman owned and locally made right here, in Evergreen.

Jennifer, the owner of Humble Suds, helped make our booth at the Farmer’s Market possible this summer so we, Evergreen Sustainability Alliance, can do the outreach we need to the community.

While we won’t be at today’s market, come check out Humble Suds products next Tuesday or even better, come visit at our Refill Station!

As we bid far-well to our former Refill Station Program Manager, Zoe, as she embarks on her next adventure, our store will be closed the following days as we transition to our next Program Manager:

July 4 (Saturday): Closed
July 10 (Friday): Closed
July 11 (Saturday): Closed

We anticipate the hours will return to normal after this upcoming week but please stay tuned as that could still change.

Because we are a non-profit program that heavily relies on our volunteers, we appreciate your understanding during this transition time.

Thank you, Zoe, for pouring your heart into this program. During Zoe's time with ESA and as Store Manager, she was able to grow our volunteer involvement tremendously and helped this community by providing a waste diversion resource that is also vital to this organization.

She did pop-ups, participated in several outreach opportunities to let new community members know about this resource, explored new options to expand our refill product list and collaborated with several business that ended up making us a stronger non-profit as a whole.

Thank you Zoe, you will be missed!

One of ESA’s staff members, Josie, recently attended the 3-day Recycle Colorado Conference.

Also representing our mountain town area was Foothills Recycling Owner, Megan Mitchell, and new owner of South Platte Services (formerly Shirley Septic), Doug Atkinson, as well as a showing for our very own Executive Director, Wendy!

The event offered a powerful opportunity to collaborate, meet and converse with environmental leaders from across the state on the future of waste diversion.

What are some of the BIG takeaways from the conference?!

1. The Reality of Recycling: Proper recycling effectively keeps materials out of landfills and drives economic and job growth across Colorado- something our mountain community certainly has room to improve on.

2. The Importance of Composting: Organics and food scrap collection remain critical to waste reduction. The state is actively working on improving composting infrastructure, accessibility, and contamination control.

3. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR): Municipalities and organizations are working hard to establish free community recycling programs, which will be very beneficial to our mountain communities once in play.

4. Supporting reuse programs is necessary: Recycling is great and all but an even BETTER route is reuse. Supporting programs like a Refill Station helps reduce single-use production while keeping that container out of the landfill…good thing we have one in our very own community 😄

Colorado is a beautiful place to live and there are many people behind the scenes that are doing their part to keep it as so.

We have a new, updated list for our Spring Clean Recycling Event so what does that mean?! We are accepting even MORE hard to recycle items!

So what have we added?
•Batteries: household & car (view the 2nd image to see what exactly that includes)
•Paint: we are NOW accepting lacquer & stain
•Plastic film & plastic bags: please NO chip-like bags, think stretchy by poking your finger through. Film must be clean- NO food or liquid residue

Happy collecting and let’s keep these items out of the landfill!

Evergreen local artist Ron Isaacson invites you to experience sustainable creativity at his upcoming exhibition.

Discover “Amazar Tales,” a striking showcase of eco-conscious artwork running from May 29th through August 16th.

The Jefferson County Sustainability Commission “Spring into Sustainabilty Challenge” is underway and you need to join in on the fun!

This interactive competition is to support the goals of Jeffco’s Climate Action Plan and to help raise awareness of the simple budget saving and planet healthy actions we can all take as an individual.

There are some awesome prizes to be won for top point earners so let’s start earning those points for making those sustainable choices.

ESA and ECAG (Evergreen Community Action Group) hosted an engaging Evergreen Environmental Forum last month in celebration of Earth Day 🌎

We heard from experts across our community, including: Jefferson County Sustainability Commission, local haulers and recyclers (Foothills Recycling, Mountain View Waste, and South Platte Services-formerly Shirley Septic), educators, and nonprofit leaders like Eco-Cycle.

They shared updates on local sustainability initiatives and practical ways residents can reduce waste and support environmental efforts.

The event featured a panel discussion with audience Q&A- sparking ideas for how our mountain community can continue to grow as a leader in sustainability and waste reduction.

Before the panel, Evergreen High School students presented their work as part of the Climate Seal of Literacy program - an initiative preparing students to take action on climate issues.

Their projects highlighted topics like decarbonization, wildfire mitigation, and community engagement.

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to a meaningful conversation about our community’s future!
